DESCRIPTION:
Rugged Rocks Beach Cottages, is situated in Port Alfred, the heart of South Africa's Sunshine Coast. It is nestled amongst the natural and unspoilt coastal forest of indigenous vegetation. The tranquil and secluded surroundings make it the perfect destination for an affordable, yet enjoyable holiday.
Accommodation
The Accommodation varies from a large brick house to elevated wooden chalets and secluded beach cottages. Rugged Rocks is a private and secluded paradise that has to be experienced to be appreciated. The accommodation and surroundings are such that after experiencing our hospitality, our visitors return year after year.
MONKEY HUT (sleeps 6):
The Monkey Hut is the one of the highest of all the cottages. It is an elevated wooden chalet with spectacular views of the surrounding coastline. The cottage consists of three bedrooms, one bathroom en-suite and one additional bathroom with a shower and toilet. The spacious lounge and open plan kitchen lead onto a large wooden balcony where the surrounding can be appreciated while in comfort. There is plenty of parking.
DUNE DEN (sleeps 4):
The Dune Den is one of two adjacent elevated wooden chalets which share a common lawn and braai (BBQ) area. The chalets are nestled amongst indigenous dune bush and comprise two bedrooms, 1 bathroom (shower & toilet only) and an open plan kitchen and lounge area. Both the main bedroom and lounge lead onto a wooden balcony with beautiful views of the sea and surrounding coastline.
CORAL CABIN (sleeps 4):
Coral Cabin is the second of two adjacent elevated wooden chalets which share a common lawn and braai (BBQ) area. The chalets are nestled amongst indigenous dune bush and comprise two bedrooms, 1 bathroom (shower & toilet only) and an open plan kitchen and lounge area. Both the main bedroom and lounge lead onto a wooden balcony with beautiful views of the sea and surrounding coastline.
CRAB COTTAGE (sleeps 6):
Crab cottage is situated closest to the sea and nestled amongst the indigenous trees. It is a beach cottage comprising three bedrooms, 1 bathroom (bath & shower combined) with a kitchen and open plan lounge and dining area leading onto a paved patio with an enclosed braai (BBQ) area. An adjacent shaded area under Milkwood trees provides privacy and coolness during summer. There are no sea views from this cottage.
SAND CASTLE (sleeps 6):
The Sand Castle is part brick part wooden cottage set amongst unspoilt indigenous trees and bushes with a variety of animal and bird life. It has a spacious front lawn and braai (BBQ) area. This cottage has been recently renovated and is now a double storey cottage having 1 bedroom with an en-suite (shower & toilet only) and the kitchen and dining area downstairs. Upstairs has the 2 other bedrooms with a shared bathroom (shower & toilet only) and a lounge with sea views.
MERMAID COTTAGE (sleeps 4):
The Mermaid’s Cottage is attached to the Sand Castle cottage and so is also part brick part wood. It has its own braai facilities and a small lawn area. The cottage consists of 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom (shower & toilet only) downstairs. Upstairs has the open plan living and kitchen area with gorgeous sea views.
PARADISE VIEW (honeymoon suite):
This cottage is used as a honeymoon suite and is built right on the beach, with magnificent views of the ocean and coastline. Whale and dolphin watching is a regular occurrence. The honeymoon suite consists of a large bedroom with bathroom en-suite (with spa bath), open plan lounge, dining room and kitchen. It also has another 2 bedrooms sharing a second bathroom, should families wish to spoil themselves. You cannot get better than this. Relaxation, privacy, views and romance, Paradise is closer than you think. (No children under 10 years)
SEA FOREVER (honeymoon suite):
This is one of our newer editions and is the closest cottage to the beach. It has absolutely stunning coastal and ocean views, which makes whale watching a pleasure on the superb deck. This honeymoon suite consists of the main bedroom with a full en-suite bathroom (with spa bath), open plan lounge, dining room and kitchen. There are also 2 additional bedrooms, with a shared bathroom, for a family that wants a special time away from home. (No children under 10 years)
HIGH 5 (sleeps up to 5):
High 5 consists of 5 semi-detached units, all of which are elevated and boast stunning views of the ocean. Downstairs consists of an open plan living area, modern kitchen and guest toilet. A braai (BBQ) area outside on the patio. Upstairs, the main bedroom has a deck overlooking the sea, one bathroom (with a shower, basin & toilet) and a second bedroom with a double bunk and a single bed. Two of the units have 2 single beds in the main bedroom, instead of a double bed.
DOLPHIN’S VIEW (SLEEPS 6):
This is our newest up-market cottage. It is elevated so has absolutely stunning views of the area and sea. There is a gorgeous balcony which offers 180° views of the surrounds. Dolphin’s View consists of 3 bedrooms, the main with a full en-suite, and the 2 additional bedrooms with a bathroom between them. It has a large open plan living, dining and modern kitchen area. A wonderful venue for people in need of a break. (No children under 10 years).
FACILITIES & SERVICEs
General Information
All units are fully equipped for self-catering and include bedding. The resort is connected to the Port Alfred Municipal water supply, and each unit has an additional rain water tank for drinking purposes. Cottages and units all have their own TV's with Mnet. We do not provide towels, linen for hired mattresses or a laundry service.
Servicing:
Units are not serviced, but when occupied for more than seven days there will be a change of linen and a general clean up. Arrangements can be made for a cleaning lady at a nominal fee.
Kitchenware:
We provide: Electric stove with oven, or 4-plate hob with microwave, combination fridge-freezer, kettle, toaster. Pots; 1x small, 1x medium, 1x large, roasting pan, frying pan, colander. Cooking utensils, egg flip, draining spoon, tongs, vegetable knives, bread knife. Jug, salad bowl, Pyrex dish, cutting board. We do not provide potato peelers, can openers or corkscrews.

Boating on the Kowie River, half-hour drive from Grahamstown, Long unspoilt beaches. Nature reserve within 600 metres, Own secluded nature trail on the property. |
