DESCRIPTION:
Settlers' Hill Cottages consists of a two restored Victorian cottages, furnished in period style and situated in well-tended gardens in a quiet part of town, where both bed & breakfast and self-catering accommodation is offered in a homely setting.
Magazines, books, travel information, and the famous "20 Things To Do" list are provided to keep visitors occupied. In addition to the many attractions in town such as the university, botanical gardens, churches, museums, Victorian facades, Camera Obscura and coelecanth, there are excellent malaria-free game reserves nearby where elephants, antelope, giraffes, zebra, hippos, rhinoceros and lions can be seen in a natural setting. The Sunshine Coast with its famous sandy beaches is only a 40-minute drive through pineapple farming country and quaint country villages.
JASMINE COTTAGE
Standing on the veranda of this centrally-situated cottage, one can see the Cathedral. There are four bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. It has a cosy walled garden draped with red Bougainvillea, white Jasmine and Mandavilla flowers. There is an outdoor barbecue area for having a typical South African braai.
A fully equipped kitchen can be used by selfcatering guests. A comfortable TV lounge is available for relaxing in as well as a spacious dining room where the studious can prepare lectures or read. Groups of up to 8 people can easily be accommodated in this spacious house. It is very close to Rhodes University, town and many attractions.
SETTLERS HILL MANOR
This gracious Victorian Manor House built in the 1860's has 6 large bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, a large lounge/dining room, gleaming yellowwood floors and high ceilings. The wrap-around verandah gives it a relaxed colonial feel. The furniture is all original antique oak, yellowwood and teak. The ambience is a relaxed country style.
The garden, with its large lawns and mature trees, has many quiet corners in which to relax with a book or magazine, and is ideally suited for a family barbeque. The house also lends itself for accommodating wedding parties, or holding small-group (up to 15 people) conferences. The large kitchen is where the staff prepare the full English breakfasts for our B&B guests. |
