| The Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape |
|
The Wild Coast is one of South Africa's most
fascinating and beautiful areas. It is a rugged, remote and fairly unpopulated stretch of
gorgeous South African coastline between East London and Port Edward.
The Wild Coast boasts a rocky, tranquil and pristine coastline along with warm weathers
and waters. It is these characteristics that attract hikers, surfers, scuba divers and
fishermen from all over the country. |

The Wild Coast, on the eastern seaboard of
South Africa, boasts its own secrets. It is a land that has been lost in time and the
combination of history, geography and politics has left it largely undeveloped and
unexplored. Most roads are still gravelled, the byways unused and the population still
live as they have done for centuries. There are many things that have been left
undisturbed and unawakened by the busy outside world. Yes, the modern era has not affected
or changed this gorgeous area.
The Wild Coast boasts a treacherous stretch of coast between the Mtamvuna River just south
of Port Edward and the Great Kei north of East London. It is ruggedly beautiful with a
wilderness of green hills, deeply incised river valleys and lagoons. There are numerous
shipwrecks along this coastline making it a superb snorkelling and diving destination
where an abundance of spectacular coral reefs and species of fish can be discovered.
From hiking to fishing, there is something here for everyone. There are also numerous
historical and cultural sites one can explore.
The lush forests, shimmering waterfalls, spectacular nature reserves and wild life and the
friendly people make it a perfect destination for the discerning traveller.
Everywhere you go on the Wild Coast you will find numerous craft sellers offering all
sorts of South African goodies from foods to clothes. The clothing made here is unique and
very distinctive. There are wooden sculptures, baskets and bead jewellery. This is one of
the very few outlets in South Africa were there is an array of traditional Xhosa arts and
crafts, ranging from beaded bags and belts, traditional clothing, baskets, mats and
blankets.
The Wild Coast remains a relatively untouched paradise in South Africa. It is an eco-haven
where waterfalls tumble into the sea and the beaches remain pristine and virtually
untouched.
An escape to the Wild Coast will truly be unspoilt, unbelievable and unforgettable! |
